ScaleXtreme to Launch Cloud-Based Big Data Systems Management Features

ScaleXtreme, a provider of cloud-based monitoring and systems management platforms, has announced it will soon add big data analytics features to its systems management products, allowing IT operators to leverage insights based on data collected from their own systems as well as public clouds.

To be released later this year, the features will include comparative performance benchmarks, industry-wide best practices, peer-based vulnerability analyses, shared security threat alerts, and service provider meta-analyses. In addition, users will be able to opt-in to the ScaleXtreme Intelligence Network, which, according to the company, will be like getting "a second opinion from a group of competent friends."

In terms of identifying which cloud and on-premise servers need patching, for example, Intelligence Network users will be able to see which patches or solutions have been deployed by their peers.

"Only a cloud-based tool can aggregate, anonymize, and analyze IT operations data at scale from a large base of users to deliver actionable intelligence to customers," said ScaleXtreme CEO Nand Mulchandani in a statement. "The advancement of data analysis technologies has enabled us to begin work on an ambitious overhaul of the systems management products that IT operators are familiar with."

In a recent survey of 785 executives, only 19 percent of the respondents told North Bridge Venture Partners that they use cloud computing products to process big data. However, 80 percent said big data will most likely be "disrupted" by cloud computing, suggesting there is substantial room for growth for SaaS-based big data solutions.

Based in San Mateo, Calif., and founded in 2010, ScaleXtreme raised $11 million in a round of Series B funding last year. The company's products can be used on a number of cloud computing platforms, including Amazon EC2, Citrix, HP Cloud Services, Microsoft, Rackspace, and VMware.
