Jabil and Microsoft Collaborate on Predictive Analytics Solution

Electronic product solutions company Jabil announced a new collaboration with Microsoft today at the Hannover Messe industrial fair in Germany. Jabil is using Microsoft Azure Machine Learning as the base for its predictive analytics solution, which aims to assist companies in improving productivity and saving time and money by foreseeing potential failures before they occur.

Jabil is a provider of manufacturing, design engineering, and supply chain solutions for a wide range of industries, such as automotive, industrial, and telecommunications. By using Microsoft Azure, Jabil’s predictive analytics platform is able to handle vast amounts of data from machines running operations at various steps in the manufacturing process and predict failures earlier in the process. These predictions aim to assist operators in adjusting equipment, saving time by reducing the need for inspections.

According to a statement by Clint Belinsky, vice president of Global Quality at Jabil, since deploying Microsoft Azure Machine Learning, the company has seen at least an 80 percent accuracy rate in predicting processes that will slow down or fail. Belinsky said this has contributed to a scrap-and-rework savings of 17 percent:

"As our customers constantly look for ways to innovate, it is very impactful to show them a predictive solution that will ensure quality and increase their speed to market."

Jason Zander, corporate vice president of Microsoft Azure at Microsoft, emphasized Jabil's use of digital solutions to effect change in the manufacturing process:

"Jabil's digital transformation on the factory floor will reshape its industry. As product cycle times shorten and products get smarter, Jabil understands how the intelligent cloud combined with predictive analytics will help it support the needs of its customers."

Microsoft Azure Machine Learning is a cloud-based service that can be deployed in a matter of minutes and is compatible with all devices. Azure utilizes a network of secure private connections, hybrid database and storage solutions, and data residency and encryption features that integrate with organizations’ existing IT environments. Azure also features a pay-as-you-go system that allows businesses to alter scale to match demand.
